From 1 January 2025, the new classification of economic activities came into force — CAEN Rev. 3.
Companies, self-employed persons (PFA), individual enterprises (II) and family enterprises (IF) must update their scope of business in line with the new CAEN codes.
The CAEN Rev. 3 implementation period has been extended by Government Decision No. 788/2026. The decision establishes a new period of 6 months from its entry into force on 1 October 2026, continuing into 2027. During this period, both CAEN Rev. 2 and CAEN Rev. 3 are recognised for uses other than statistical purposes.

What does the update involve?
Converting CAEN codes is not always just a change of number. Depending on your activities:
- an old CAEN code may be split into several new codes
- several old codes may be combined into a single code
- the name or content of an activity may change
- the articles of association and authorised activities may need updating
The new codes must accurately reflect the activities your company actually carries out.
